This bill was the Democratic Majority’s answer to soaring gas prices, but the legislation would actually not do a single thing to lower prices and help us move toward energy independence.

This bill would not have produced one drop – not a single drop – of new American energy to help reduce gas prices on behalf of American families and small businesses. It was designed to advance the Democratic leaders’ plan to run out the clock between now and the August recess without having to take a meaningful vote on producing new American energy."

Boehner today hailed a decision by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to make land available for oil and gas leasing in the northeast portion of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPR-A). The BLM's action is expected to pave the way for a major lease sale as soon as this fall.

If his veto had stood, it would have jeopardized healthcare access for the millions of seniors and other vulnerable Americans who rely on Medicare for their health coverage. Thankfully, my colleagues and I stood up against the President, overriding his veto to turn this measure into law. "

For weeks now, House Republicans have tried to bring legislation to a vote in the U.S. House that would help bring down gas prices and put us on a path to being energy independent. Time and again, those bills get caught up in political maneuverings from the Majority party that worships at the altar of radical environmentalism. We're looking to open up remote, barren land in Alaska for drilling, unlock our deep-ocean resources and develop clean coal-to-liquids technology in what we call an "all of the above" energy strategy.
