Michigan and other hardest-hit states will receive 13-week extension of benefits WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today announced passage of legislation that will provide a seven-week extension of unemployment insurance to people who have exhausted their current benefits and still cannot find work. States like Michigan, with a 6% unemployment rate or higher, will be given an additional seven weeks of benefits, for a total extension of 13 weeks. This legislation comes on the heels of a recent report by the Department of Labor citing Michigan's latest unemployment rate at a staggering 9.3%.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that 24 Michigan organizations have been awarded $1,716,518 through the Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP). FLINT, MI —U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today joined with Mission of Peace President & CEO Reverend Elmira Smith-Vincent and Mayor Don Williamson to discuss how over $12.5 million in new federal aid will assist area families facing foreclosure. Stabenow was able to help secure $11.7 million for Genesee County and the City of Flint as part of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 and an additional $98 million for the Michigan state program general fund to help additional communities across the state. Michigan is currently sixth nationwide in number of foreclosures.

WASHINGTON —U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow, (D-MI) today announced the final agreement as part of the continuing resolution on the budget to include $25 billion in low-interest loans to automobile manufacturers for retooling older factories. The Advanced Technology Vehicle Incentives program authored by Senator Stabenow will allow automakers to produce the next generation of vehicles here at home. This provision is designed to revitalize the economy and comes at a time when Michigan's unemployment rate leads the nation at 8.9%.
